Our First Painting Projects!

Painting has begun in the new abode! I love painting. Paint is like a miracle in a can. It transforms a room for a mere $30 or so.

Look how pink these walls are! Seriously? Yes, seriously. And the whole house is painted this color. Thankfully they don't look so pink in every room, but with the first few strokes of paint in the downstairs bath on the wall, it really stands out! You can see why I am so anxious to change colors.

Though I'd love to be painting the kitchen, we tackled the entry and the downstairs bath over the weekend. I chose a color by Behr called "Nurture", a hint of blue-green that goes nicely with the slate colored tiles in the entry and green tiles in the bathroom.

Look at this ugly counter. This is in the master bath. I love the very long vanity but the countertop is less than attractive. So it, too, is being painted. While we would glaldy cough up the money for a new countertop, it's not going to happen without gutting out the vanity. We've been there and done that before and aren't quite ready to do it again. So for now, we turn to Rustoleums countertop paint for help.

(I used Frogtape for this particular endeavor. It's supposed to stop the bleeding of paint under the tape and I sure hope it does!)

It's risky, but I'm hardly a perfectionist so I figure we'll give it a try. My friends over at Young House Love swear you can paint anything. Josh and I agreed on the color "Wheat".

You must don ratty painting clothes for this project. Mine have been through many painting projects in their day. I almost chucked them when we were packing up to move and then I thought "What am I thinking???? I'm going to need those!"

This countertop paint has some serious fumes so get the fan going...

Open a gazillion windows....

And pray like crazy that it looks decent by the time you are done. That's what I'm doing anyway. This is what it looks like after three coats of paint. I plan to put a layer of polyurethane on it to seal it, as suggested by many users on various discussion groups. For now, I can't tell you the results. So you pray about that too, okay?

But I can show you the end result of the entry way. So much brighter and welcoming. Oh, and look, curtain rods in the corner! Getting cozier all the time round here!

And the bathroom thus far. It still needs the mirror hung and a pair of curtain tiers (which are very difficult to find these days). I'm loving that these two rooms aren't looking so pink anymore!

Lots more painting projects are on the horizon. We have the paint for our bedroom, the kids hallway (a sweet deal on a can of OOPS paint at Home Depot), the family room (leftover can from the living room at the old house) and, of course, the kitchen. I'm hoping the bathroom counter comes out fabulous and gives me the courage to paint our bed.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Let us know how the frog tape works! I'd love something that prevents paint bleed!
